The year of 2009 is finally coming to an end. 2009 was full of both commendable moments as well as dreadful ones. These moments could span from something as small as a video game to something as tumultuous as the inauguration of President Barack Obama. So the Raider Revue would like to take this time to recap the one and only year 2009.
Let’s begin with the small things. 2009 was full of blizzards, but which of the blizzards had the best timing in itself, or possibly the worse timing. In March, a snow storm hit Colorado just before spring break. The school board ruled to call in two snow days, Thursday and Friday. These days led right into break, extending the week long break by two more days. One of the worse timings of a blizzard was in October during the fall break. This blizzard conveniently came in the middle of fall break bringing with it: slippery roads and eighteen inches of snow and no extra days off since the snow conveniently melted just in time for school.
The best of the entertainment world, this category reaches from: video games, to movies, to sports. The overall consensus would be agreed that the best part of the entertainment world would have to be the release of the most anticipated game of the year, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. This game brought a new compelling campaign, a whole new side game (Spec Ops), and of course the multi-player that everyone cannot get enough of. The worse part of the entertainment this year will be given to the Washington Redskins. The Redskins have somehow managed to allow two defeated teams to beat them, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Detroit Lions. The loss to the Lions finally allowed the Lions to break a twenty-two game losing streak. Good job Redskins. Also I do not mean to bring huge attention to his death, but the passing of Michael Jackson is one of the greatest losses to the world.
Politically the nation has been through a lot of change. This obviously refers to the inauguration of President Barack Obama. His being voted into the office was a ground breaking historical moment. This showed hope into the future of acceptance that the American nation is now showing. Though the inauguration of Obama may be like a double-edged sword to some, with disagreements amongst the populace with some the decisions of the President. However; a person cannot always please everyone, the same way not everyone who reads this will agree with the choices made on this article.
Many new changes came, during 2009, to RHS as well as many critical moments. The most prominent one that comes to mind is the fact that the football finally got a home playoff game in twenty years. This showed much promise for the football team and for future teams to come. Also RHS had many new additions such as: the senior section, new lunch room lines, and the new water fountains. These new additions added comfort as well as innovation to the school.
It seems that 2009 turned out to be a pretty good year. So instead of looking at 2009 with disdain we can look back at 2009 with a smile on our faces.
