It seems that many girls who attend RHS either have highlights or have all of their hair dyed, which appears to be the most popular fad in many high schools now-a-days. So far all of the juniors and seniors who have been at Rangeview longer have seen their fair share of high school fads and transitions. Throughout high school everyone goes through that one fad to look cool and to impress people, at RHS that fad is hair dying.
It seems that the hair dying fad at RHS has become more popular because of the particular group known as the “scene kids”, and has gone from being something new to try to just being a “poser” in an attempt to look cool in front of fellow classmates. Sometimes it is just a desperate attempt to fit in as well. Senior Eric Millheim said, “I think it’s pretty lame how people think their cool just because they dye their hair.”
Such as the “zebra stripes” that girls have in their hair to look “scene” as students call it, or by dying their hair the most vibrant and obnoxious color or colors to stand out in a crowd. Junior Megan Cross said “It (hair dying) was meant to be a way to express yourself, not to be cool; but a way to mark yourself out from normal society, to rebel.”
Next thing you know RHS will have girls everywhere walking around with rainbows on their heads just because it’s what they think will get them noticed.
Although it is not just girls walking around with hair out of the ordinary it is boys as well, but it’s not to the extremes as it is with many girls who are just following what other people do. Junior Haley Land said “I think for some it’s individuality and others they are just followers.”
This seems to be true for many students at RHS who dye their hair, especially among underclassmen; this might be hard for those teenagers who have to rip off every single style the scene kids have.
Soon enough scene kids won’t have their individuality or style. They may not even stick out in crowds anymore because eventually everyone that attends RHS will be a scene kid. I don’t understand why people have to be so obnoxious and rip off other people’s styles. If this doesn’t stop within high schools every single student will just be a walking rainbow-haired robot.
